The Budget Diva

It costs to be a diva. But if you are smart and thrifty, it doesn’t have to bankrupt you, or put you through financial strain. It is important to prioritize and learn how to go about your transformation wisely if you are on a budget. So what is your situation? If it’s difficult, I can relate. I spent a whole year out of work when I had my daughter and I’m just getting a new job. Fortunately, it is a job with a high income potential if I work hard at it. But my husband and I just purchased a new home and have yet to unload our previous one. So things are difficult. So what can one do when one is on a fixed income? How do you become a budget diva?

Tracee Ellis Ross

When I first started watching “Girlfriends” back in 2000, there was one cast member who had Standout Style to me. Joan Clayton. While I found her to be funny looking, she was artistically interesting, quite striking in her side profile and uniquely beautiful. But what stood out the most for me, was her wardrobe. Who is her stylist? I thought. Please give them a raise. I was impressed by her trendy style, dramatic dresses, feminine pencil skirts, strappy shoes, billowy blouses and bright red lipstick. And then I discovered that it wasn’t Joan Clayton that had such fierce style, it is Tracee Ellis Ross herself. There is nothing fictional about this style diva. She has been featured in Glamour, In Style, a New York Times fashion editorial, Vibe Vixen, & Essence to name a few. Her hair is wildly beautiful and her makeup light and never overdone. Whenever Tracee shows up on the Red Carpet, she arrives looking effortlessly glamorous! Check her out here

Dynamic Vintage Divas

In honor of Eartha Kitt, who passed at 81 on Christmas day, we have composed a little dedication to the Dynamic Vintage Divas that paved the platinum and gold walkway for our current divas. These women had wicked style, were sickeningly sexy and constantly classy. The best thing about them is that their beauty is timeless and their impact helped change the way we view ourselves as black women, and the way the rest of the world views us. They helped give black women confidence and inspired most of the trends that we are into today. Yes we still have a ways to go, but they’ve taken the most difficult steps for us.
